100% Symantec LUALL.EXE

Recently and without warning I had a non-DeSC machine fail to receive LiveUpdates from the Symantec Antivirus server.  The reason why I was able to notice so quickly was that the LUALL.EXE process was stuck using 100% of the processor and its claims on real system memory were escalating expodentially.  Forced LiveUpdates continually failed and a manual reinstall of the software did as well.  The problem existed for all users on the machine but a Windows System Repair affected no change.

Working on the assumption that I had missed something in the manual uninstall process I decided to simply download the Intelligent Updater from Symantec’s site.  It contains the most recent virus definitions in a software package that will search for versions of the antivirus software on your drive, update it and clean up after itself.  After a few days in observation I can say that whatever I missed in the manual install was cleaned out by the Intelligent Updater.  The machine is back to its old healthy LiveUpdate habit.
